The BMW Gina concept car with a fabric, instead of metal, skin looks amazing.

The skin technically isn’t fabric… it is a “metal-like fabric” according to BMW… but whatever- it is still a really cool looking vehicle. But, I can’t imagine it being safe… I mean, my car would be seriously damaged during a hailstorm… I can’t imagine what would happen there… But I guess everyone who can afford a BMW can also afford a garage for it!

Yeah, but this thing only takes two hours to get an entirely new “skin” if that were even necessary. The metal skin of a car doesn’t actually do all that much to increase safety in this age of steel framed vehicles. As far as damage, I’d bet that people caught in hailstorms don’t have large holes in their shirts or jackets and this fabric is supposed to be tough like kevlar. We can stop bullets with fabric so I’d trust it to protect me.
