Happenings
So what have I been up to since June? Lots, here are three things off the top of my head:
- Sarah and I are heavily into the videogame The Darkness. Yes, our character uses potentially demonic power to stage a power coup within his “uncle’s” mob. Said power, “The Darkness”, feasts on the hearts of those we have slain.
- I’ve gotten a parking space on the campus of UNC. So now instead of driving to a parking lot and then catching a bus to campus; I get to park a quarter mile from my building in Cobb Deck. Bonus: parking in Cobb deck I discovered that my beloved outdoor basketball and tennis courts that were demolished for the construction of said deck1 have been rebuilt! So as a result…
- I’ve been playing basketball every day after work at the new Cobb outdoor basketball courts2. Some days I shoot around during lunch, but 95+ degree heat kind of keeps that from being as fun as it could be. A regular crew of guys has started to show up at the court once the semester got underway. On Tuesday we had enough for 4-on-4 and got to run with both baskets. The courts aren’t huge by any means, there are four baskets on one tennis court, but they’re big enough. The courts are highly improved as well. The surface is actually smooth, the baskets are single rims, and the nets are nylon3.
What haven’t I done? Code my übercool rails webapp. Why? Well…one, the itch to program was scratched by a ramping up of my programming tasks at work, and, two, lots of cool videogames came out. :-)
Also, mainly, I stumbled onto Mephisto and liked what I found: a nice blogging system running on the rails, content separated from logic, with a community and themes and plugins and everything.
1 I thought, “I can at least use the parking lot they created over my courts”.
2 Well, almost. Actually today is the first day I’ve missed in the past two weeks.
3 Here’s hoping people don’t rip them down while going up for pseudo dunks.
